Galaxy S3, the latest sensation in the smartphone world, stirred the market yet again with news of generating a whopping 9 million pre-orders from more than 100 global carriers, reported the Korea Economic Daily on Friday.
The third generation Galaxy S3 phone, which was unveiled in the beginning of the month, will first hit German markets on May 29.
According to the Korean newspaper, which has cited an anonymous Samsung official as its source, Samsung is currently running at full capacity and producing 5 million Galaxy S3 units every month, but the company anticipates that with the kind of response that the latest Galaxy phone has generated, two months' production will be exhausted in no time.
Samsung, the Korean-electronics giant that has just been announced as the world's biggest smartphone maker in the first quarter, shipped 20 million Galaxy S2 units in 10 months and sold 5 million Galaxy Notes in less than five months time. But, with the Galaxy S3, the company will further strengthen its position in the market, believe experts.
The Korean company, however, declined to comment on the latest development. But during their Q1 2012 earning call that took place last month, Robert Yi announced that the new phone would be the company's "most successful smartphone ever."
Q1 earnings of the company revealed that it made revenues of 45.27 trillion Korean won on a consolidated basis for the first quarter ending March 31, 2012, a 22-percent increase year-on-year. It turned in a record 5.85 trillion won ($5.1 billion) in operating profit, a 98 percent increase year-over-year. The company's 5.05 trillion won net profit was up 82 percent against the year-ago quarter.
Galaxy S3, the latest flagship smartphone from Samsung, is a 4.8-inch device powered by Android's latest Ice Cream Sandwich, a quad-core Exynos application processor (region specific) and packs in 16/32/64GB internal memory, LTE connection (region specific), Near Field Communication technology, 8MP camera with zero-lag shutter speed and a monstrous 2100mah removable battery. The most attractive features of the phone are its latest "S software features," which are based on a concept of "human interaction" and introduces innovative features like S Voice, Smart Stay, S Beam, Pop Up play, Direct Call, Smart Alert, Social Tag, AllShare Media and more.
