The rumors have now been confirmed. "Total War: Warhammer"'s first elven race, the Wood Elves, enters the battlefield this December.

Creative Assembly announced the addition of the much speculated Wood Elves race in its upcoming DLC, named "Realm of the Wood Elves."

"With a rich suite of lore-inspired campaign and battle mechanics, Total War: Warhammer's first Elven race offers a playstyle unlike any other," says publisher Sega in a statement. "Ranging forth from the enchanted forests of Athel Loren, they may capture any settlement in The Old World and set up expansionary outposts. In battle, they offer a swift, glass-cannon playstyle.

"By far the most powerful and versatile archers in the game, they can equip a range of magical arrows, fire on the move, and are often joined by their Woodland allies such as Dryads, Great Eagles, Forest Dragons and vast, ancient Treemen."

Here are the exciting contents included in the new "Realm of the Wood Elves" DLC:

New Wood Elves Race in the Grand Campaign

New additional Race-specific currency: Amber

Wonder-based Campaign victory condition

Wood Elves may conquer any region on the map

Two New Playable Legendary Lords: Orion and Durthu

Two new Lord types with deep-specialisation skill trees

Three new Hero types with deep-specialisation skill trees

Comprehensive Wood Elves army roster

Adds an additional campaign map to the game with the unique 'Season of Revelations' Wood Elves story Campaign

The developer also announced that the Bretonnia Faction, which was supposed to be released this year, will be moved to 2017, and will be included in the "Total War: Warhammer Old World Edition.

On the FAQ section, Creative Assembly explains that the reason why Brettonia was delayed is because the team has added more content to the package, including additional units and a third Legendary Lord.

The Old World Edition will be a physical-only release for the game. The bundle includes the base game, all the free-LC's released so far, the Bretonnia Race pack, and an exclusive novella, 'The Prince of Altdorf' by "Total War" writer Andy Hall.

Existing players will still get the Bretonnia Race pack as a free-LC when the "Total War: Warhammer Old World Edition" drops in February next year.
