'Dishonored 2' Gets Huge PC Beta Patch On Steam; Players Accuse Arkane Studios Of Releasing Incomplete Game
J RoseBethesda has released yet another beta patch for its stealth action game "Dishonored 2," following performance issues on the PC version of the game.
Players on Steam can now opt-in to the new 1.2 Beta update, which was promised to include a huge number of fixes, including a fix to the persistent crashes experienced by PC players.
True enough, the patch notes contain a hefty amount of fixes, performance tweaks and the like, but here is the overview of the patch (via Steam):
General performance and optimization improvements
Auto-detection of the Visual settings was re-worked based on player feedback and observed issues. If still experiencing issues after updating drivers and downloading patch 1.2, advise using the "Restore Settings" option to apply the recommended settings for your hardware.
Max pre-rendered frames is now managed by the game, advise removing any previous manual customizations in graphics driver control panel
Fixes multiple related to game logic
Fixed various issues related to user interface
Fixed various issues related to mouse/KB and gamepad, including:
---- Mouse smoothing is now set to minimum by default
Fixed various issues related to using alt-tab related bugs
Fixed various issues related to multiple monitors
---- Fixed a bug where Resolution Scaling was deactivated when the game ran above 30 FPS
---- Changed the Resolution Scaling settings to be more clear
Added new settings in the Options menu:
---- Added a Framerate Limiter so the player can limit framerate fluctuation when playing without V-sync
---- Added TAA Sharpness option
---- Added more options to V-Sync settings. NOTE: If you previously disabled V-sync, please check your FPS limiter setting to ensure it is set to your desired limit.
---- Added Triple Buffering option
Despite the number of fixes included in the latest update, however, PC players are still disappointed at both Bethesda and Arkane Studios for releasing "Dishonored 2" on PC in an unacceptable state.
"You guys are building whole game again," one Steam user commented. "Less than 2 weeks and 13GB (2x 6.5gb) updates most of data is just replacing old files."
"No wonder Bethesda changed its review policy just before this game came out," another Steam user said. "This game clearly was not ready for release."
Not everyone is still disappointed, however, as some users have thanked Bethesda and Arkane for listening to its player base and working on the fixes as soon as possible.
"It's impressive work," one Steam player commented, "although it just shows what could have been from the start if proper care and attention had been placed in the games PC version."
The director of the recently released stealth action-adventure game has expressed his thoughts about the poor PC performance of the game following its release.
Talking to a lot of equally disappointed fans on Twitter, Harvey Smith said that the team at Arkane Studios is working on a fix for the PC version of the game, which suffered from severe performance issues.
Despite the technical hiccups on PC, "Dishonored 2" received positive reviews from critics and gamers alike, with the Playstation 4 version also getting a score of 88 on Metacritic.
