Nokia Latest News And Update: Nokia Phones Are Back With Two $26 Basic Phones [VIDEO]
Caezar SottoNokia is back! HMD Global's latest acquisition returns to the market with a $26 "dumb" phone. However, the latest news coming from the former global giant has disappointed many Nokia fans.
So far, last month's merger speculated reports of a Nokia phone running on Android OS. The recent release is a far cry from the anticipated "Nokia smartphone". The Nokia 150 and Nokia 150 Dual-SIM do not offer much --- except for making SMS, calls, and other basic features similar to the classic Nokia 3310.
Nokia's new phones do not have any internet connectivity. The device also features basic functions such as an FM radio and a built-in MP3 player. Both sport a 2.4 inch screen, a physical keypad, and a long-lasting battery pack. Prior tests indicated that the 2 models offer at least 22 hours of talk time and can last up to 31 days on standby.
Last month, HMD Global acquired licenses to the rights and intellectual property of the Finnish company. The deal gave HMD exclusive licensing rights to Nokia for the next 10 years. The agreement specified that Nokia will receive royalty from the sale of Nokia units.
According to CNBC, the phones are a testament to the durability of classic Nokia phones. Nokia ended its phone business when Microsoft acquired the troubled company. Despite featuring solid phones in the Nokia Lumia line, the tech giant failed to make it work.
HMD Global hopes to recreate Nokia's success before the popularity of smartphones. In a post from Phone World, HMD CEO Arto Nummela told the press that the company will focus on making durable phones. Most of HMD Global's crew are former Nokia employees.
As of the moment, loyal Nokia fans will have something to cheer about. The Nokia 150 and Nokia 150 Dual-Sim comes with a pre-installed Snake Xenzia game.
