Hit Or Miss? Nintendo Joins The Mobile App Wars With Super Mario Run For Smartphones

Cris Xander Juliano

Nintendo joins the mobile app wars with Super Mario Run for iOS and soon, on Android.

The hero of the game, Mario, has been adapted for a lot of platforms such as NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, and Game Cube; however, this is the first time it can be played on a smartphone. It will absolutely be a great joy for mobile gamers to finally play Super Mario on their mobile devices. It will also be a whole new mobile gaming experience and at the same time, bring you back to memory lane as you first played Super Mario on the NES.

There is some bad news, though; it is not a free app. You have to spend $10 to play the full game. Sure, there is a free demo that you can download. However, you will only have access to a few levels, according to Digital Trends. For Super Mario fans, that is a bit disappointing.

Nintendo tried its best to stay faithful to what made Super Mario so successful --- colorful graphics and a fun gameplay. With Super Mario Run, you will only be able to play with one hand and Mario never stops running. You tap the screen for Mario to jump and hold the tap for longer jumps. Levels are beautifully designed, which is a Nintendo trademark.

According to TechCrunch, Super Mario Run needs to be played with an internet connection. Otherwise, you will just get a spinning wheel when you are offline --- another bad news for some mobile gamers. On a brighter note, Nintendo tried hard to raise the replay value of this game by unlocking new levels when pink and purple coins are collected. However, gathering them all may require a certain skills to master.

In the end, if you did choose to spend money to play Super Mario Run, its great design and challenging gameplay will be enough for you to be satisfied in purchasing it and knowing where your really money went.
