Folks at iFixit are back in the action and this time Samsung’s new flagship smartphone – the Galaxy S3 – has undergone a postmortem. And guess what was discovered in this teardown? Some interesting facts about Galaxy S3 have been discovered including the inclusion of a camera, which is identical to the one found in iPhone 4S.
Here are the discoveries revealed in the postmortem of Galaxy S3:
Processor Chip
The Galaxy S3 boasts the same Exynos 4 Quad processor that Samsung announced a few days before the launch of its new flagship smartphone. Samsung Galaxy S3 includes a home-made quad-core 1.4 GHz Exynos 4412 processor with 1GB of RAM (DDR2). Thanks to 32nm manufacturing process, the new Exynos processor is twice faster than the Exynos Dual processor, yet it consumes 20 percent lesser power than the latter.
Display
As we all know earlier, Samsung Galaxy S3 has 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with 720p resolution. It is protected by second generation Corning Gorilla Glass layer. Corning claims that the protection screen is 20 percent slimmer allowing manufacturing of slimmer and touch responsive devices with extra ruggedness.
Camera
Surprisingly, Galaxy S3 sports the same Sony Backside-illuminated CMOS image sensor found in Apple iPhone 4S and Sony's Android smartphone including the Xperia Arc. However camera resolution is higher - 8 megapixels. At the front is 1.9-megapixel camera that clearly outperforms iPhone 4S' VGA camera.
Battery
As expected, 3.8V 2,100 mAh battery is present in the device. The battery integrates Near Field Communication (NFC) chips used in S Beam.
Furthermore, other silicon bodies reveled in the iFixit teardown are Samsung NAND flash, Intel Wireless PMB9811X Gold Baseband processor, Murata Wi-Fi Module and Broadcom BCM47511 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver.
