Nintendo Wii U Recall Rumors Debunked: Just An Issue of Supply Shortage - Best Buy
Regin OlimberioBest Buy belies the allegations that Nintendo is recalling Wii U from major retailers albeit lack of supply from current generation console. There were earlier fuss about Nintendo moving to completely erase Wii U from their books.
Nintendo has prematurely ended the production of its latest generation of console Wii U last month to pave way for upcoming Nintendo Switch in March next year. Come to think of it, allegations that Nintendo is trying to start a clean slate by recalling Wii U from major retailers doesn't make sense - good that retailers themselves clear out the unnecessary fear the rumors have sown.
While it is an open secret that Nintendo is not happy with how Wii U sold at limping 13 million units, it is logical that the company isn't going to shun from Wii U without a replacement. Yes, Wii U is small compared to predecessors which tend to at least breach 4 times the figure, which includes the Nintendo Entertainment System Classic which is surpassed Wii U sales.
Then here is the dilemma, Nintendo Switch is just around the corner and Wii U have to ultimately step aside. However, Wii U's demise isn't going to be that soon, Geek reported. In fact, Best Buy said that there is a gaping hole in the supply right now but this is not due to Nintendo Wii U being recalled.
The original culprit that caused the misunderstanding was a report by NeoGAF user Authentic M. He went to one of Best Buy stores and asked a clerk about his observation that Wii U is nowhere to be seen. Further, he pointed that there was a full batch of new Wii U stock a week prior so it is impossible that shortage is going to happen that soon. Then the clerk replied that Nintendo is recalling them all from the shelves - the rest is history.
