An Australian Federal Court Ordered Internet Companies To Ban Torrent Sites

JP

The days of torrent sites and other piracy websites which allegedly facilitate the infringing of copyrights may be numbered as countries start to impose stricter bans and begin to take more serious actions against this internet websites.

Just recently, the Australian Federal Court came up with a resolution which ordered internet companies to effectively block internet sites that are said to be guilty of facilitating copyright infringement. This alleged copy infringing sites include IsoHunt, TorrentHound, Torrents and the most popular file-sharing website on the internet today, The Pirate Bay as reported by Torrent Freak.

The Australian Federal Court gave the internet companies 15 days from the date of resolution to take action and comply with the order given. Internet sites were given a choice on how to block the questionable websites.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) has listed quite a number of websites that are said to be involved in counterfeiting and piracy in its 'Out-of-Cycle Review of Notorious Markets'.

Although the list did not effectively attach liability against the websites, USTR stated that the list is a call to action for foreign governments and internet companies to help reduce piracy.

Also included in the list of USTR is the popular stream ripping site, YouTube-MP3.org. USTR, in including the popular stream ripping site, stated that stream ripping is causing substantial harm to the music industry and is considered as an emerging trend in internet copyright infringement.

Other popular sites mentioned in the USTR's list include 1337x.to, ExtraTorrent, RARBG and Rutorrent.

The USTR encourages all authorities concerned in fighting the proliferation of piracy to further intensify efforts to battle piracy.

The US government has reportedly urged the Swiss government to legislate new laws to make it easier for authorities to take the appropriate actions against the pirate sites, this plea has however fallen into deaf ears as it is yet to be heeded by the Swiss government.
