'Final Fantasy XV' Designer Narrates Character Changes; Developer Team Reportedly Disorganized
Keisuke AkioThe "Final Fantasy XV" characters as we know them were not originally designed the way they are at present. A former designer related what happened during the development of the game, as well as the design origins of the characters.
Character Designer Roberto Ferrari recently narrated on his Facebook page the inefficiency inside the "Final Fantasy" studio. Ferrari has already left the development team, and said that the group was highly disorganized. He narrated that his team consisted of 200 suffering souls who had to labor on "FFXV" while it was yet to be finalized.
He added that "FFXV" story changed every three months in 2013 and it affected the game's final release schedule. He further said that in animation world, the main story is concrete and established before staff were hired, which happened otherwise in "FFXV."
Ferrari designed Cindy Aurum, Ardyn Izunia, Cid Sophiar, Aranea Highwind, Iris Amicitia, Umbra, Gentiana, and Verstael also spoke about several character changes that were made after his departure. He said that Gentiana's character had a different gown and had a sort of uniform that has the same color as the present dress. She has a white armor piece on her left arm and a heavy sword with the same color as her armor. She represents a point of contact between Tenebrae and Nifhleim cultures, and a messenger of Stella, as well.
Ferrari, in addition, said that there were some characters that were removed from the story. These characters were more ninja-like, like the ones in Kingsglaive but more Japanese in style. He added that the dog Umbra transformed into one of those deleted characters.
Moreover, Ferrari also reportedly labored on the remake of "FFVII." However, when asked about the topic he quickly responded that the game would not have many new characters. He also stated that in "FFVII" he was not able to fully express his fantasy freely like in "FFXV."
