Michael Pachter isn't finished with too many analyses about possible gaming scenario come 2017, PlayStation 4 dropping its price to $199 is the biggest among them all. Here is the best part; the Wedbush Securities analyst claims that the console may be dropping its price to $199 come Dec. 31, 2016.

Is a day before 2017 closes and PlayStation 4 can drop the price at enticing level, it is going to be a very happy new year for players indeed. Of course, there are few considerations like issues of pricing effect on other consoles, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Remember that this console has the biggest game library among them and any movement from this successful device can cause domino effect to the other two, PlayStation Lifestyle assessed.

Question is: are there any basis behind Pachter's prediction that PlayStation 4 is going to drop at $199? Actually, it doesn't come as a plain rumor or leak nor simple prediction. Several experts like SuperData, EEDAR, HIS Markit and Kantan Games support Pachter's theory of this console dipping into affordability.

According to reports, it is not only PlayStation 4 who went through series of predictions but other devices like upcoming Nintendo Switch as well. Moreover, other factors like virtual reality gaming, current pricing trend were taken into consideration when they thought that the console will sell for $199. It is only a matter of question when will this happen.

So what could be PlayStation 4's intention in pegging the console price at $199? Pachter said that primary force behind PlayStation's decision is to keep the lead over Xbox One, priced at $250, and hold on to it until the next generation of console comes. A fifty-dollar drop from current price that might set a trigger to drastic increase of player base for the console.

Now to cap up, remember that at $199 is a product of expert prediction and Sony themselves neither affirmed nor denied this. After all, we're only days away from Dec. 31, so it's not too long a wait before we can praise or lambast Pachter.
