Apple Siri & Amazon Alexa: Digital Assistants To Unlock Humane Emotions To Protect User Health
Niyati S.Now, technology has gone ahead and tried to solve real problems for us. The digital assistants, including Siri and Alexa, are going to offer health and emotional support to their distressed users.
It was only a year back that Samsung's S Voice assistant was tested by telling it that the user was depressed. In response, the AI had plainly responded with the textbook definition of the word "depression" and some official citation. However, everything has changed for the good now. The Consumer Electrics Show of 2017 is slated to showcase the latest offerings of the digital assistant to make things a little easier for all the users. The aim is to add more voice regulated apps into our lives, bit by bit.
"While these smart-home ideas are likely to gain plenty of attention at CES, the JAMA study highlights the need to improve digital helpers' responses to more critical health and wellness issues, as well," stated CNET. "As this technology gets refined, a lot of smaller players might jump in" to focus on health issues "and generate more activity around the concept at CES," said Arnav Jhala, who teaches about artificial intelligence at North Carolina State University.
Digital and voice assistants can help encourage healthier habits in their users and save many lives because the technology is available in many digital devices these days. Currently, these assistants include Apple's Siri, Cortana, Amazon's Alexa and the Google Assistant.
They are currently nascent in their technology and can only work on limited functions. As such, detecting the complexities of human health and the mood is going to take some time. This change came after a study at Stanford University came to the result that these assistants are not extremely humane in their approach. Statements, like wanting to kill people or committing suicide, were not understood by these assistants properly.
