Horror films are no exception to 2017 as the year is expected to present a lot of high-caliber films soon. That being said, a list of the films to look out for in the year are bound to come forth for the thrill-seeking movie goers.

With 2016 not presenting too many hits from the horror genre in the mainstream scene, there is almost a natural expectation that 2017 will have a turning change. Now that reboots, sequels and remakes are rising quickly, some of the past cult classics may have a relatively popular following in line, as well some fresh new ideas coming to the surface. .

One in particular is the remake of "It;" a story of a killer clown terrorizing a town's population of children. A monster inside, Pennywise has struck fear into the hearts of kids everywhere and has returned for more. The film will star Bill Skarsgard from "Hemlock Grove" as the evil Pennywise the Clown, to be shown September 8, IMDB reports.

There is also the fresh take on "The Dark Tower," which is based on Stephen King's novel. With a star-studded cast led by Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, the film has a whole lot of expectation riding on it after the many years of anticipation. It will reportedly hit theaters on February 17. In the same manner, a new take on horror in the form of found footage will send chills via "Cage Dive," as a group of vacationers find themselves stranded in shark-infested waters after a large wave hits their boat.

Bloody Disgusting reports that other oddities in the horror scene include the upcoming "Split," starring James McAvoy and his superb acting skills with a man plagued by multiple personalities. The movie is scheduled to release on January 20. Another new idea is that of "Get Out," joining the likes of "The Chair," "Abruptio" and "The Belko Experiment."

Continuities for the year include the action-packed "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" on January 27, another zombie hit in the form of "World War Z 2" on June 9 and "Annabelle 2" by August 11, to name a few.

2017 will also show the likes of "Amityville: Awakening" to be shown on January 6 and to star Bella Thorne. Originally slated for a 2015 release, the movie is considered long overdue but is now finally laying itself out on the big screen.
