Windows 10 Dominates Steam Users’ PCs; Windows XP Still Competitive [VIDEO]
Portia Mae M. CansancioThe gaming business is being dominated by Microsoft's latest operating system, Windows 10. It is currently at the top of both Windows and non-Windows categories as what Steam's data have shown.
Valve has provided the statistics for its gaming platform and it has shown Windows 10 on the leading spot with a share of 49.10%. That is roughly equivalent to one in two computers is running Steam that is powered by Windows 10.
Most importantly, it has improved over the last month by 0.73% and 0.02% for its 64-bit and 32-bit versions respectively. It made Windows as the only operating system that didn't go down in December.
Meanwhile, almost half of the Steam computers are powered by Windows 10 but for Windows 7, it is continuously declining. As per data for December, its share is down to 28.60% having decreased by 0.22% from the month before.
As for Windows 7's 32-bit version, it dropped at the same month as well and is currently at 5.27%. In general, Windows is leading the Steam charts with its increase of 0.20% from November and is currently at least 95.60%, SOFTPEDIA reported.
Both Linux and Apple's macOS lost share on Steam. MacOS declined 0.15% in December and is now only powering 3.44% of the PCs while Linux lost 0.01% to 0.87%. In terms of older Windows operating systems, the world seems to be not ready yet to give up on Windows XP.
Furthermore, even though Windows XP is no longer receiving updates and improvements since April 2014, it still shows up in the charts. At least 1.15% of Steam users' computers are powered by Windows XP. It has even more users than the 32-bit version of Windows 8.1 that is currently at 0.27%.
On the other hand, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 was just launched a few weeks ago but then it is only running on just 1.14 percent of the Steam PCs. On a side note, check the video below on how to get Steam for Windows 10.
