Samsung Official Confirms 4K Displays For Galaxy Note 8; Teases Native Compatibility with New Gear VR
Athena DeeSamsung Electronics was recently in hot water following the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. Despite being involved in a global recall, in addition to the backlash it got from the public. the Korean tech company reportedly has plans of releasing another Note device this year.
According to Business Korea, the Galaxy Note 8 will be launched in the second half of 2017, a couple of months after the April unveiling of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge. An official from Samsung revealed that due to the increasing demand for phablets in today's tech market, they "will release the Note series this year again."
The Galaxy S8 will reportedly feature 2K resolution displays. The Galaxy Note 8, on the other hand, will come equipped with 4K resolution displays.
This feature is an added plus for Samsung, considering that there is a visible rise in today's virtual reality market. The Samsung insider revealed that the upcoming flagship phablet will have a native compatibility with the Gear VR wearable. Considering that VR headsets will be splitting the screen in half, it is most enjoyable to pack as many pixels in each half as possible.
The Galaxy Note 8's 4K capability will make it Samsung's first smartphone to have such feature, as pointed out by Slash Gear. Sony may have thought about it first in the Xperia Z5 Premium, but it reportedly turned out to be nothing more than a gimmick.
UL, a US-based safety organization, had already recently publicized the results of its probe into the Galaxy Note 7. According to multiple news sources, the root cause of the fire hazard is actually not the battery. Based on UL's findings, the problem lies in the device's electronic hardware design. Samsung and Korean tech investigators have not yet revealed the results of their investigation.
