Google 6.10 Beta May Have Input Text Option In Google Assistant Based On APK Teardown
Arianne GiftGoogle is currently rolling out an update to its 6.10 beta and, already, it's hinting on features that the less chatty could take advantage of. In a recent APK teardown, it has been discovered that the beta application includes the ability to key in text when talking directly to the Google Assistant on the Pixel. Another update includes getting the Assistant to work on Android Wear and a new feature called "Search Gestures."
The star of the show as of now is talking to the Google Assistant without actually spitting out words -- one could do it via written text. This feature is very much like to how one would talk to the Assistant through Allo.
On the application right now is a keyboard icon. Once it is launched, users can tap it and the Assistant's UI will display a text field for written input. Most people have gotten used to the idea of having vocal conversations with their phones, but this update could mean that full Google Assistant and bot integration could happen anytime soon. Now, talking to the AI would not be the only option; you can start typing instructions soon, as well.
In an Android Wear teardown, courtesy of the 9to5 Google, code snippets hinted at the idea that Google was working to bring the Assistant to Wear 2.0. Not much can be identified for now except for some codes that point to new settings for the Android Wear Assistant.
Another feature called "Search Gestures" has also been identified in the 6.10 beta. Google hasn't confirmed anything yet, but it's plausible that users may be able to activate the Google Search interface by doing a quick swipe on the home screen, instead of tapping it from the top.
According to the Android Police, these new features could be made available soon, although Google could always make changes, given teardowns are based merely on APKs. You can test it yourself by downloading the Google beta .apk file here.
