"The Vampire Diaries" has been one of The CW's longest-running shows, having been out since 2009, and it is officially ending on March 10. After Nina Dobrev decided to leave the series, fans began to request that she return for the show's finale episode.

Just last year, the president of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, told E! News that there were "discussions going on with Nina." Even the network's boss is hopeful that the actress will come back. Even months after Dobrev left the show, Pedowitz previously admitted that the studio would "love" it if she decided to return. However, "TVD" showrunners have a backup plan, just in case. "Should it not work out, Julie [Plec] has planned out a great series finale for fans," revealed Pedowitz.

Now, with only a few more weeks until the finale episode of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, Pedowitz has become more mum about Dobrev's possible return. When the press asked him about the actress, on whether she will be back or not, he only answered with, "The studio and The CW promise a fantastic series finale."

Ian Somerhalder, on the other hand, has "never been busier." The actor, now married to "Twilight" actress, Nikki Reed, has decided to have a change in career. He will be working with his wife in a new The CW series, "Transience." They had recently launched Rare Birds Productions and will be pushing through with the series with Warner Bros. TV.

When asked about what kind of show he wants to participate in, he told Variety that he wants to make "all kinds of shows." "Scripted, unscripted, drama, comedy, docuseries, digital - all of it," he said. "The reality of it is telling good stories."

This new show with Somerhalder and Reed is about a musician who gets the life that he wants after his consciousness was transferred. However, there are side effects to the procedure. Soon enough, identity and memory will start to clash.

Contrary to earlier reports, "Transience" is not replacing the time slot for "The Vampire Diaries." In its place will be "The Originals," which is considered to be a spinoff of "TVD." As for Somerhalder, he will not be part of the show as he is expected to focus on his own series.
