'Sea of Thieves' Gameplay Stays Firm On Co-op System; Players Must Work Together To Advance
Dannel Picaccio Camille Perez Lozano"Sea of Thieves" is one multiplayer title that revealed an important feat recently -- the value of teamwork. Rare's upcoming game apparently has some specified duties for some to take on that can benefit the group.
With the past months filled with teasers, "Sea of Thieves" revealed through its "Inn-Side Story" series what gamers are to expect from the treasure hunt title. The game essentially surrounds itself in co-op gameplay; and while this is can come off like a cliché, it essentially defines the story progression.
According to PC Gamer, senior designers Shelley and Andrew Preston explained how most elements of the game are considerably social, gameplay-wise. "Every single mechanic has been built to be social. We didn't want the person on the wheel to be able to sail the ship and see where they're going on the map and do everything all at once," Shelley said. She added that splitting up the crew with designations will work well for the players, such as the world map being only available to one person.
Even so, not everything is accessible within the map, as Andrew pointed out. There will be details that only the person on the wheel will know, the same way the one holding the map does. Obstructions along the way cannot be seen by everyone and those near these will be the ones to give the teammates a warning.
Overall, Shelley suggests that all the players will need to work together to simply navigate the ship. The game is being developed by Rare. It lets players browse through islands and terrains via a first-person perspective, thus instantly restraining the information seen by all the participating players. No release date has been given yet but it is known to launch within 2017 for Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.
