HTC Desire HD Android 4.0 ICS Update Delayed, Not Canceled

After tense reports last week that HTC has canceled the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Desire HD, the Taiwanese mobile major spoke on the matter. Fortunately, HTC officials came clear on the matter that the Desire HD is on track to receive Ice Cream Sandwich treat.

HTC spokesperson confirmed to Android Central that the software update for the Desire HD has not been cancelled. The smartphone manufacturer assured its fanboys that the update is coming but did not shed any light on the rollout plan. Along with the Desire HD, HTC also confirmed an ICS update for the Desire S, which packs almost same specs as the former.

HTC UK also confirmed the same, in reply to one of its fanboys message, on Facebook.

"We remain committed to providing customers with the latest software updates when possible. As such, we are pleased to confirm we are still on schedule to deliver an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for both the HTC Desire HD and Desire S," said HTC Spokesperson, in a statement, to Android Central.

Earlier this year, HTC included the Desire HD to its Android 4.0 update list and confirmed that the smartphone is due to get the latest iteration of Ice Cream Sandwich, along with the Desire S and HTC Rhyme, in July.

However, Canadian carrier Telus outed an update schedule document last week quoting that HTC Desire HD will not receive the Android 4.0 update. The news came as a shocker for HTC Desire HD owners as the handset would officially remain on Android 2.3 Gingerbread forever. "We're really sorry - we've been told by HTC that the update was cancelled, and we're trying to get in touch with them to find out more," a Telus spokesperson had told Mobile & Apps.

Owners of the Desire HD can quit worrying as the company has confirmed that the device will surely get the software upgrade. However, an official statement confirming when the smartphone will receive the Android 4.0 is awaited. It looks like that the update is not ready yet and it can take some additional time before the rolling begins.

Nowadays, much of the Android talks focus on the latest Jelly Bean Android OS. Manufacturers are still busy rolling out the Ice Cream Sandwich for the old device and, therefore, have no time to focus on the next version of the Android.

Debuting in 2010, the Desire HD will turn two and the Android 4.0 ICS is the second major software update for the device. However, it seems that the device will not be worthy for the Jelly Bean update.
