Samsung Plans To Roll Out More Than 100,000 Units Of Fold-Out Phones This Year
Athena DeeSamsung Electronics has been through a lot this past year, especially after the Galaxy Note 7 fiasco. Since then, the Korea-based tech company has been striving to regain its top spot in today's smartphone industry.
CNET has pointed out that new designs to a device are expected to initiate a new wave of consumer spending. Samsung did very well with the design applied to the Galaxy S7 Edge, with a screen that wrapped onto its side. It has been reported by multiple news sources that the company is preparing to launch yet another smartphone technology.
An insider informed Korea Herald that "Samsung is expected to roll out more than 100,000 units of fold-out devices in the third quarter." According to the report, this particular device will have panels that can face outward upon folding. Once completely open, it is then transformed into a 7-inch tablet.
Apparently, Samsung had already completed the development for fold-in smartphones last August. However, they opted to forego implementing this new technology due to worries that consumers might find it inconvenient to have to unfold their contraptions whenever they need to use them. With the fold-in technology secured, the source added that it was easy for Samsung to "shift into the fold-out phones."
Still, easy or not, the report added that the company has not yet made its final decision on whether it is a good idea to use the new technology for upcoming devices or not. They still have not yet settled the technology's profitability and marketability issues. According to the Samsung insider, the decision will be revealed "after the personal reshuffle" of some company executives.
The reshuffling was originally scheduled for last December. However, due to certain circumstances involving a political scandal, the executive level reshuffle was moved to either February or March.
