The successor to Galaxy Note is cloaked in a mystery. Samsung rumor mill is in action once again and we have few details about the device's hardware this time. Reports reveal that the Galaxy Note 2 phablet will have quad-core processor and HD display. According to DDaily, the device will debut at IFA consumer show Aug. 30.
Folks at Phone Arena discovered a few benchmarks of a device listed as Samsung GT-N7100, which is believed to be the Galaxy Note 2. The benchmark data has been abruptly pulled off from the GLBenchmarks Web site, but it revealed a lot of juicy details about the upcoming phablet before the takedown.
The GLEnvironment and System Info data shows a device with quad-core processor (Exynos 4412 to be specific) accompanied by Mali 400 GPU, which is same as found in the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S3 and even Galaxy S2. In Offscreen tests, Samsung GT-7100 scores higher than the Galaxy S3, suggesting over-clocked processor.
The Galaxy S3's processor is clocked at 1.4 GHz. Benchmarks reveal a device with maximum clock frequency of 1.6 GHz. However, the Galaxy Note 2 seems to miss the Cortex A15 bandwagon. It looks like that Samsung is saving the surprise for its 2013 flagship smartphone as the inclusion of a super-processor in the Galaxy Note 2 would put a stop on Galaxy S3's sales.
The leaked GL Benchmark data shows downsizing in display resolution from 1280 X 800 pixels to 1280 X 720 pixels. The change would eventually slash the aspect ratio from 16:10 to 16:9. However, rumored specs suggest a small boost in screen size from 5.3-inch to 5.5-inches.
From GL Benchmarks, it look like that the GT-N7100 that showed up is an engineering prototype of the much-rumored Galaxy Note 2, rather than a production-ready model. In addition, the GT-N7100 runs a build of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
In recent months, Samsung has enjoyed the same levels of speculations and rumors as Apple does. Firstly, with the Galaxy S3 and now the inevitable Galaxy Note 2 is in the rumor mill. If the device is really going to debut at the IFA consumer show, just like its predecessor, we have only a little more than a month left to grab the monstrous phablet in our hands.
