Analysts Say 250,000 Nokia 6 Pre-purchase Units In China Not A Big Deal [VIDEO]
Pia MerciApparently, the number of pre-orders that is accumulated within few hours of its launch may represent something about a particular smartphone's success. With this, then Nokia's new Android smartphone, Nokia 6 may not be a hit among consumers according to analysts.
Nokia 6 was put on pre-sale registrations on JD.com with an announced price of 1,699 Chinese Yuan or roughly $246. Within a few hours, it attained close to 250,000 registrations.
This could apparently mean that first, there may be people who haven't seen the phone used or there are people who may be interested buying it but haven't got any concrete reviews about the phone. Note that Nokia branding is working for just a newly built company, HMD Global.
According to analysts, this number of pre-orders isn't a big deal for a company like Nokia selling its famous flagship, but way less than what Chinese makers such as Xiaomi, Le Eco or Meizu achieve. The number isn't impressive at all, even comparing it with China's home grown brands.
Meaning, Nokia 6 apparently doesn't pass the bar to enter the mainstream market, as per the research manager of IDC China, Di Jin's statement with South China Morning Post. While for the independent analyst Xiang Ligang, for Nokia to be able to come back and stand out, it needs something peculiar.
It may be possibly too early to say such but apparently, a low number in pre-orders may mean something. People would prefer to buy a smartphone with more specs, better and nicer design, and something unique instead of just purchasing a smartphone because of being nostalgic.
Nokia 6 features a 5.5-inch 1080p display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, a 4GB RAM, and a 64GB expandable storage. In addition, it comes with a 16-megapixel camera on the rear with f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus and dual LED flash while on the front comes with an 8-megapixel camera. The phone is further backed by a 3,000mAh battery.
Nokia 6 will still be open for pre-order registrations until it goes on sale on January 19. However, compared to other Chinese smartphones, they have lesser or the same price but have better processors and camera features.
