Massive Security Preparations Under Way For Donald Trump's Presidential Inauguration 2017
Shena GolosinoDonald Trump's Presidential inauguration has been scheduled for Friday, Jan. 20, 2017. The preparations for the big day are underway.
According to Fox News, Missouri GOP Senator Roy Blunt, the chairman of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, stated that their greatest concern is security.
"No question that on inaugural day, this would be the most appealing target in the world," Blunt said. He added that the city could have as many as 750,000 demonstrators alone. Groups of protesters are planning large-scale demonstrations. Among them is the collaborative DisruptJ20. The group plans to "paralyze" the city and shut down the inauguration as well as the parade, the balls, the traffic, public transit and the parties, reported Fox News.
Another group, RuseFacism.org is also planning a small-scale protest on Saturday in Washington's McPherson Square but they are hoping it will grow into a larger inauguration-weekend protest. It can be recalled that the group tried to disrupt the Senate confirmation hearing for Senator Jeff Sessions, Alabama GOP, to become Trump's attorney general.
According to USA Today, Answer Coalition also has a permit for a mass protest at the Freedom Plaza near the parade group. The Women's March in Washington expects an estimated number of 200 000 attendees including celebrities Amy Schumer and Scarlet Johansson.
More than three dozen law enforcement agencies will work together for the inauguration including the Capitol Police, FBI, Secret Service and the National Guard. Fox News reported that roughly 7500 guardsmen and 3000 police officers are coming to Washington and they will be led by the secret service.
Navy Commander Jonathan Blyth listed the weather as a big variable on the inauguration day.
The inauguration of the President of the United States traditionally takes place on January 20 after a presidential election. The president's term begins at noon on Inauguration Day, upon taking the oath of office administered by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
