iMac 2017 Variant Packed With AMD Polaris 10 Could Oust MacBook Pro; New Mac Desktop Possibly VR Ready [VIDEO]
Vinay PatelThe rumor mill is up and running at full force regarding the 2017 variant of the Apple iMac, churning all sorts of speculations surrounding iMac 2017's release date, specs, and other details. Let's delve into some of the rampant rumors that are doing rounds online.
Citing the recent unveiling of the long-awaited Kaby Lake Processors at CES 2017, tech pundits are now hazarding guesses that the iMac 2017 will pack Intel's latest chipset. Aside from that, there's hearsay that this year's iteration of the iMac will feature AMD's Radeon Polaris graphics chips, under the hood.
Moreover, the iMac 2017 might even be VR (virtual reality) ready. Tim Cook, the chief executive of Apple Inc. recently shed more on what's in store for the Mac desktop, specifically, the 5K iMac. Cook noted that the desktop is indeed very strategic for the company.
There's word floating around that the iMac 2017 could hit the store shelves sometime in the second half of 2017. However, it's worth noting the Kaby Lake chipsets are not associated with a release date yet, which could interfere with the launch of the alleged new iMac and the new MacBook Pro, according to MacRumors.
Out of the several variants of the chipset, the new iMac will be using the S and Y-Series. Meanwhile, the H and U-Series will fire up the MacBook Pro.
The last iteration of Apple's iMac range of all-in-one desktop computer was released a couple of years ago. As far as the current generation iMac is concerned, it's only selling point is the 5K Retina display for the 27-inch variant of the device. Thus, it is imperative for the Cupertino-based tech firm to come out with an array of awe-inspiring features in order to jockey for position amidst the skyrocketing popularity of the Microsoft Surface series.
With the hype surrounding the iMac 2017, it is obvious that the device has been subject to a slew of speculations and leaks. According to PC Advisor, the new iMac will sport a 27-inch display, coupled with 32GB of memory, and a colossal 2TB Fusion Drive.
The new iMac is likely to pack AMD's Polaris 10, which offers enhanced graphics performance as well as potential reductions in power consumption. But that's not all. The iMac will receive a Pro treatment, making it an apt replacement for the Mac Pro.
Given aforesaid the specification, the steep price tag the iMac 2017 is likely to carry is anybody's guess. The device could be up for grabs bearing a price tag of $3,199.99, but Apple has neither confirmed nor denied these speculations. Moreover, official details are likely to surface sooner rather than later. Stay tuned in here for more updates!
