It has been a grueling wait for "A Song of Ice and Fire" fans for the past few years as updates about the sixth installment of the popular book series have been scarce. Fans of the popular book series where the HBO hit TV series, "Game of Thrones", is based have long been waiting for "The Winds of Winter", the sixth book in the George RR Martin series.

The enigmatic author has been asked numerous times for details or updates about the "The Winds of Winter", but Martin remained tightlipped and has not addressed any question about the book he is currently working on. However, a glimpse of hope has been given to "Game of Thrones" and "A Song of Ice and Fire "fans as Martin has finally broken his silence.

Author George RR Martin has finally opened up about some updates to "The Winds of Winter" book. On his own blog, Martin was asked by an eager fan for an update about the sixth book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book series and to the delight of numerous fans, Martin obliged and has given the update that numerous have been waiting to know.

According to Martin, the book is not yet done but he has already made some progress. Martin further stated that he thought he should be finished writing the book by now. Though Martin gave quite an update, eager fans may have only seen the part where Martin said that "The Winds of Winter" may be out this year.

Though a glimmer of hope has been given to "Game of Thrones" and "A Song of Ice and Fire" fans, the author, in a true GOT fashion, made sure to kill the hype immediately by saying he also thought of releasing the book last year.  "The Wind of Winter" is the sixth book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series. The seventh book will have the title "A Dream of Spring".
