iOS 10.2 Preventing Users To Play & View Ripped Videos In Their Devices
Gloven RamosOn Dec. 12, 2016, when iOS 10.2 was released, Apple introduced the new TV app for the OS users. This app serves as a TV guide that aims to simplify the television watching experience of its users, and help them discover new shows and movies.
The standard Videos app was replaced by the new TV app which serves as a television hub on iOS devices. But according to reports, this iOS 10.2 new TV app doesn't work well with shows and movie content that has been ripped from DVDs.
On the discussion site of Apple, some customers who have videos copied from DVD content on their iOS 10.2 device are no longer able to watch or play them in the TV app. They said that they have videos saved and they can play them on their devices before the iOS update.
One of the users who was having a problem with the iOS 10.2 described the issue. "Prior to iOS 10.2 I was able to play and view videos I had ripped on the Videos app in iOS. The process I used was to rip the content and then import them into iTunes. Then I synced my iPhone with iTunes and my movies were downloaded and viewed using the Videos app."
The user added, "iOS 10.2 no longer includes the Video app and the new TV app will not allow me to watch these ripped videos. Does someone have a solution or am I simply missing something?"
On a Cult of Mac report, they cited the experiences of some users suggesting that the issue of the TV app is just a bug from the iOS 10.2, rather than intentional prevention, since adding the new TV widget to the Today page causes ripped content to show up inside the TV app.
Unfortunately, this remedy doesn't appear to have been successful for all iOS 10.2 users. For these users, for now, the only thing they can do is wait for Apple to address this issue.
