Project Scorpio Information Leaked: Not Having ESRAM & Highlighted 6 Teraflop GPU Will Be 4.5 Times the Power of Xbox One
Coco DollangangerAnother information on the Project Scorpio's specs has leaked suggesting that it is four times as powerful as Xbox One. The new Xbox One hardware iteration, which is expected to launch at the end of this year has had different specs going around and it appears that this time, it's the console's processor being talked about.
According to the new Microsoft document obtained by Digital Foundry that was verified with sources from Xbox developers, the Project Scorpio is not having ESRAM - the 32 MB of an unbelievably quick memory that is integrated with Xbox One's processor. The new leaked document suggests that the memory set up of Scorpio can simply outperform Xbox One.
Previous reports have suggested that the new console is sporting 6 teraflop GPU, which is about 4.5 times the power of Xbox One and this has also been highlighted in the leaked document. It also says that the Project Scorpio has four times for L2 cache of the Xbox One console, which has the same level with AMD Polaris range and the GPU is also capable of Delta Color Compression just like the PlayStation 4.
As for ESRAM, it is a hardware solution that helps developers deal with the memory size and speed limitations of the Xbox One although they still have to optimize their titles to support ESRAM since Xbox One can't perform without it. Additionally, a technique called checkerboarding or sparse rendering seen with the PlayStation 4 is also being suggested on the Project Scorpio, reports IGN.
Some parts of an image like shadows can be rendered at half resolution without a serious quality deterioration that allows gains in efficiency. This means that the techniques can allow games to render at 4K without the need of scaling up in lockstep with compute power.
Many fans have raised their concerns on the price point of the new console but Xbox executive Phil Spencer said in October that they feel like it's a premium product but not more than that. Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming console.
