iPhone 7 Plus Accidently Submerged For 13 Hours In A Freezing-Cold River: Has It Survived? [VIDEO]
Pia MerciAn unexpected ice fishing mishap has put one fisher's iPhone 7 Plus water resistance abilities to the ultimate test after accidentally submerging it in a deep ice hole for 13 hours.
This incident happened in Yakutsk City in Russia wherein a resident accidentally dropped his iPhone 7 Plus in one of the ice fishing holes inside a plywood hut, which was carved on the frozen river's surface and locals use to protect them from frostbite. However, he wasn't able to retrieve it as soon as possible. Therefore, it was left overnight until the man's foe helped him out by diving in the next morning.
According to Sun, the diver was identified as Fedor. In his reportedly Instagram account, a video was posted and reveals that it took multiple attempts to find the iPhone 7 Plus underwater. The handset turned on smoothly without any problems, a short while after it was being rescued.
The footage showed the diver holding the rescued iPhone 7 up with the screen still lit up and its owner showing to the camera that iPhone has still continued to receive notification while underwater. He even surfaced telling his friend that he got a miss call.
It had been submerged underwater for 13 hours at a temperature of 39.2 F (4C) water and despite this, the iPhone 7 plus was not damaged in anyway and was working perfectly fine. The iPhone 7 Plus apparently had 35 percent battery life before it slipped into the river and after it was rescued, it was reported that it still had 19 percent of battery life remaining.
Note that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are not actually waterproof devices, although they have a rating of IP67. This rating considers these handsets to be competent to survive plunges up to a depth of 3.3 feet.
This could apparently protect the said handsets against accidental splashes or a fall in a sink. According to Tech Times, it is nowhere does Apple claims that the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus can be drenched in the water.
However, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus have been designed with rubber seals and adhesives, which have been strategically put inside the chassis to avoid or limit dust and water intrusion, hence it is somehow water-dust resistant. It has definitely lived up to its reputation as its unexpected show of durability has caused the iPhone 7 to be more of a talking point in the tech community.
