Blackberry Mercury Confirmed To Launch On Feb. 25; Here's What You Need To Know
JulianneThe Blackberry Mercury is set to be revealed next month. TCL has unveiled its official release date on February 25, which is a two days before the Mobile World Congress starts. This is exciting as tech enthusiast just have weeks away from the device's debut.
The Chinese company shared the release date via Twitter. The tweet only reads the date, February 25, 2017 along with a hashtag MWC 2017. Thus, TCL will have a pre-MWC event with the said event be held on February 27 until March 2, 2017.
At the CES 2017, TCL allowed a hands-on of the device but the specifications, price and availability were not yet specified. The company also released a statement that the new Blackberry smartphone will focus on three core features: security, productivity and reliability.
According to Express UK, the upcoming flagship will sport a radical new redesign that looks to take inspiration from other leading smartphones in the market. The handheld is also the third trilogy of new release, following the previous DTEK50 and DTEK60 flagships, all made in partnership with TCL.
Meanwhile, the Blackberry Mercury sport a new metallic build and measures at around 4.2 inches. With that said, it will be smaller than most handhelds in the market. BGR reports that the upcoming mobile device features a combination of metal and rubberized body.
The Blackberry variant will also have a capacitive keypad that allows users to scroll through the phone's apps using touch. However, in its traditional Blackberry fashion, the handheld will feature a physical QWERY keyboard, having a second option from the touchscreen keyboard and allows typing messages and emails.
It was feared that the QWERTY keyboard would not be back for the device. But the company did revive the iconic feature for the Mercury. It is said that it will give users a good typing experience with smooth scroll gestures.
There is also a fingerprint scanner embedded into the spacebar for biometric authentication and a USB Type-C port as well. The Blackberry mercury will be Android-based.
