'Slang N' Friendz': Ludacris Introduces New Scrabble-Inspired Word Game; Now Available on Android and iOS

Louise Bonquin

Ludacris, the well-known hip hop artist, just launched his own game called "Slang N' Friendz." The new scrabble-like mobile game has been released on Jan. 26 and now available for iOS and Android devices.

Ludacris collaborated with filmmaker and entrepreneur Edwin Benton to release the said Scrabble-inspired game. The two felt that it is quite frustrating that they are not able to use a slang in any traditional word games and this was how the new game was born.

Via press release, CEO and Founder of "Slang N' Friendz" Benton said, "Our goal is to provide users with a fun, compelling and un-intimidating word game where they can be themselves, learn and represent where they come from."

He went on to say that their main purpose for creating the game is to connect people across the world and let players interact and play with people they would not normally meet. For Benton and Ludacris, slang is universal and it could be something that can bring people together and possibly, even change the world one day.

On the other hand, in an interview with GamesBeat, Ludacris disclosed that he was a fan of the "Scrabble" board game but he uses slang more often since he is in the hip hop world. Because of this, he and Benton thought of producing "Slang N' Friendz."

As a hip hop artist, Ludacris said, "We have created words that ended up in the dictionary because they were slang." He added, "I felt it was necessary that our own vocabulary be added to the dictionary, like an urban dictionary. We want to fill a void with the word."

How the game works

Players of "Slang N' Friendz" can play with either real people or AI as their opponents. Each opposing side will get random letters that must be placed on the virtual board to form words.

Players can earn badges as they play and work their way up. If someone inputs the most slang in their city, he will rank on top of the leaderboard.

The amazing thing is that players can use slang words dating back as far as the 1800's. This means the range of slangs that are acceptable in the play is really wide. There is curse slang as well so initially, "Slang N' Friendz" are for adults only.

Finally, Ludacris said that "Slang N' Friendz" players will be able to add their own slang words later as they continue to develop the game. The kids version may also be considered and the game may also be released in various languages in the future.
