NES Classic Edition Has Sold 1.5 Million Units; Nintendo Apologizes for Shortages & Now Working to Increase Production
Coco DollangangerNintendo recently announced that regardless of the NES Classic Edition widespread shortages, it still managed to reach 1.5 million sales around the world. Nintendo president Tatsumi Kmishima confirmed this news who revealed the figures of the company's latest earnings conference.
Kimishima apologized to retailers and consumers for the lack of supply of the NES Classic Edition explaining that one of the reasons why it took them a long time to replenish its stocks is because some parts involve time to procure. He also said that the company is already in the works to increase the console's production to meet market demands.
The demand for the console has been really high that some retailers sold it up to $1,000, reports say. The NES Classic Edition only costs $60 with classic games released 30 years ago and has been really notorious with its demands that the company has been struggling to keep up.
There have been raffles that some retailers did such as ThinkGeek for fans to get a chance to buy the classic console. Amazon, Best Buy, eBay, GameStop and more have had their own stock replenishing as well but still, many fans end up disappointed as they still can't keep with the demand and that the stores only got a couple of units each.
The NES Classic Edition is still the most sought-after console until this time and many fans remain hopeful that they can get their hands on it as Nintendo has assured that it will increase its production. The console has received strong reviews and was even hacked for 30 more games with the most recent one that can add over 700 games.
The console was launched in November for $60 and was sold out right away because Nintendo has underestimated the demand, according to GameSpot. The NES Classic Edition comes with 30 built-in games, which includes "The Legend of Zelda," "Mega Man 2," "Super Mario Bros" and "Castlevania."
