if you thought Hewlett's Packard tablet ambitions were dead, think again. The company is said to be changing around its Personal System Group for a planned come back in the tablet wars. It is difficult to determine if HP will be successful in this space since the company took a shot with webOS and ultimately humiliated itself in the eyes of the tech community.
The division that will oversee HP's new tablet ambition, according to a leaked memo, will go by the name Mobility Global Business. The memo is signed by executive VP of HP's Personal Systems Group, Todd Bradely. To head the group, the company has since asked for the services of Alberto Torres, a former Nokia executive who left the company back in February when it was restructuring.
We can see why HP chose Torres to take charge with this new venture, before he left Nokia, he was the man running things at when it came to Nokia's MeeGo operation. Torres probably left Nokia due to the company's shift to Windows Phone; he'll definitely find a home with HP since webOS is also Linux based.
It is likely HP is just in the business of selling Windows 8 RT or Windows 8 Pro based tablet, or it could have grand plans to revive webOS for one more shot at the pie. We think HP is wise enough to realize their webOS project is dead and gone for good, there is no space in the market for the platform, so the best thing to do right now is to follow suit and get some Windows 8 RT or Windows 8 Pro tablets out there, or even a few Android tablets to keep options open.
Tablet computers are slowly becoming the go-to device for many consumers instead of a laptop. They are easy to use with the exception of those with Android inside, and the mobility on these things are quite impressive.
