PSVR Update 2.40: Beta Testers Give Feedback On 3D Support; Sasuke Update To Improve Cinema Mode
Arianne GiftPlayStation 4 firmware update 4.50's beta brought with it update 2.40 for the PSVR headset as well, which according to Sony will add 3D Blu-ray support. Those who are beta testing the Sasuke update are now reporting a significant improvement in PSVR's cinema mode.
The PSVR update 2.40 is being discussed on Reddit, with several folks saying that the improvement is highly noticeable. User Chrislawrence said that no patch notes were made available, although the mode "certainly looks better." The tester added: "Tested it in 3D using Avatar and it was really clear. Not quite TV clear but definitely better. Could easily use it as a 2nd screen without feeling like you are losing out."
Another tester named BeerGutNinja said that the cinema mode resolution definitely improved. Others, on the other hand, have noted that PSVR's update 2.40, still hasn't fixed the drift issue on the VR. However, quite a few users shared that they are enjoying watching movies in 3D.
"It's very close to a cinema 3D experience. The Force Awakens in particular seemed really close to what I remember from viewing the movie in 3D at my local IMAX," RedSpecialFX said.
The upcoming PS4 update 4.50 has numerous new additions to Sony's flagship home console. Among those worth mentioning are the external storage support and custom wallpapers. The new PS4 Pro Boost Mode has also been added, which improves gameplay for Pro games that are yet to receive patches.
PSVR was released in October 2016. It supports a wide variety of titles including "Resident Evil 7: biohazard," "Ace Combat 7," "Tekken 7," "Gran Turismo Sport," plus its own unique exclusives such as "Batman: Arkham VR," "Until Dawn: Rush of Blood," and "DriveClub VR". PSLS reports that the full update will roll out "in the upcoming weeks", but there's no exact date just yet.
