New Windows OS Leaked: Early Tests For Windows 10 Game Mode Shows Performance Regressions
Ceage SottoMicrosoft has an apparent leak showing the upcoming version of a Windows OS. Allegedly, the captured screenshot could be a build to deter Universal Windows Platform apps (UWP).
The leaked screenshot could be the Windows 10 Cloud, according to ZDNet. In the same article, Windows Blog Italia has had a chance to test the upcoming operating system (OS).
Microsoft apps that were made using the "Centennial" Desktop bridge allegedly work on the upcoming OS. It also allows developers to move Win32 apps to the Windows store.
Microsoft might have made the OS to prevent users from installing unauthorized apps. Including those that are not found in the Windows 10 Store. The company's decision might be a good thing to security and manageability. However, it's likely to affect UWP/Store apps that are available for Windows 10.
It's noted that the company might be planning to position the OS against its competitors. Windows 10 Cloud could be Microsoft's alternative to the Chrome OS and Chromebooks. Microsoft has not released any comment regarding the leaks.
In other news, Windows 10 Game Mode testing shows performance regressions. According to Extreme Tech, early performance indicators are mixed.
"Grand Theft Auto V" and "Ashes of Singularity" show 1-3% of increased performance. Other games did now fair that well with a 3% decrease. The most notable decrease comes from "Hitman." The game suffered 11-14% of decreased performance. The tests were made by Jarred Walton of PC Gamer.
Walton did praise the upcoming Windows 10 feature, claiming that it's "full of potential." Despite the average results, gamers are still optimistic to try out the new Game Mode.
Microsoft might be adding little tweaks to optimize the Windows 10 Game Mode feature. Getting a 3-5 percent frame rate is better than getting nothing at all. Stay tuned for updates.
