'Red Dead Redemption 2' Expected To Follow Original's High Sales; Success Of Online Version Now Up To Fans
Dannel Picaccio Camille Perez LozanoRockstar Games did not show off "Red Dead Redemption 2" during the recently concluded Super Bowl 2017 in any way. This may be for a far more reasonable tactic which the company may be keeping behind closed doors.
According to Express, an earnings report dated February 7 was scheduled for Rockstar Games. There were also talks on the possibility of the future of "GTA V Online," but may be limited to new content instead.
GameSpot said that the earnings call revealed CEO Strauss Zelnick trying to stay away from the questions asked about "Red Dead Redemption 2." He did, however, manage to confirm a few details. Zelnick revealed that the 2010 original "Red Dead Redemption" shipped over 8.5 million copies during its first year, which then gave them a 15 million total -- presuming that the second title will come close to these numbers.
"Obviously, we're incredibly excited about the title. Not just 'Red Dead Redemption [2],' but also the online offering to come. So Rockstar will talk more about the title, but obviously, there is great anticipation both on the part of ourselves and consumers," Zelnick explained.
The same report talks about what Zelnick thinks of the marketing competency that "Red Dead Redemption 2" can offer once the online mode comes forth. He answered that despite the value of entertainment in the market, it still lies within the consumers to decide if they will go for it or not. Comparatively, "GTA V Online" is said to have performed spectacularly with its initial run all the way to the present.
"Red Dead Redemption 2" is slated for launch by the fall of 2017. It is made for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 platforms. No specific date, plot or cast has been announced for the sequel yet.
