‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ News & Update: In-Game Side Quests Will Focus Quality Than Quantity Like ‘The Witcher', Says Producer
Jai SabharwalAn impressive aspect about open-world games is that their narrative is far more engaging than closed-world games. But, sometimes players are not able to relate to the story when boring and unintuitive side quests come up. Some side quests can even ruin the complete gameplay at times. That is why, "Mass Effect: Andromeda" is reportedly going to feature side quests that add meaning to the overall story.
Some open-world games like "Fallout: New Vegas" faced such issues where players wasted a lot of their time on side quests. They had to arduously work on completing such missions, but the end result barely affected the main game story. Some games even lose the focus on the central story due to confusion created by such side missions at times. Some sources point out about such missions where players are stuck grinding through various side quests without any significance.
To counter this issue, "Mass Effect: Andromeda" producer Fabrice Condominas noted that the developing team is working on a more logical reasoning for the side quests in the upcoming game. He added that he does not want players to lose their hopes in side quests as the team is planning on improving these missions for a better narrative.
Condominas further stated that they have rerouted towards a better approach for creating such missions. And, they have learned a lot from the mishaps in "Dragon Age: Inquisitions." He also noted about how they are being influenced by side quests as seen in games such as "The Witcher" series.
Condominas points out that in-game side quests need not be big for a better gameplay, but meaningful. He defended his statement by giving an example of "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt" which carried out the side missions quite perfectly. What Condominas wants to let the readers know is that he and his developing team are going to focus on a more qualitative approach than a quantitative one. With such an approach, "Mass Effect: Andromeda" could actually be a much better game in the series.
"Mass Effect: Andromeda" is coming out on March 21, 2017. So, keep track of the latest updates for the game.
