'Grand Theft Auto' & 'Red Dead Redemption' Could Possibly Come To The Big Screen
Keisuke AkioTake-Two Interactive recently confirmed that they had licensed a number of its properties to be made into film and TV adaptations. Speculations that "GTA" and "Red Dead Redemption" would be included on their properties to be seen on the big screen have been turning the mill again.
Take-Two Interactive recently acquired a previously independent mobile developer for $250 million. Now, the company has revealed that they licensed a number of its properties to be made into film and TV adaptations.
The CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, recently answered some questions for the website MCV about the move of expanding into the world of motion picture. In the interview, however, Zelnick declined to name specific the franchises involved or name of companies they have licensed their IP. In addition, no dates for any official or concrete announcements have been revealed if "GTA" and "Red Dead Redemption" would even be a part of that move.
Meanwhile, both 2K and Rockstar belong to the Take-Two Interactive banner. There might also be a possibility of 2K games to be moving to the big screen. Their games are fan-favorites and popular to gamers. 2K has great franchises with quality releases like "Borderlands," "XCOM," and "Civilization." However, it is Rockstar's games that have grip in the mainstream. "GTA" and "Red Dead Redemption" has more likelihood to be a movie or a TV Series.
Take-Two Interactive according to speculations might pick the most obvious, GTA. The most recent title in the franchise has recently shipped 75 million copies. Zelnick however, did speak in the plural, and the other major Rockstar IP would be "Red Dead Redemption."
With the upcoming release of "Red Dead Redemption 2" more media attention is shifted towards the franchise now more than ever, Releasing a movie in the wake of the game's most talked about release would definitely make some major waves, says RDR2.
