Nokia Sets The Stage For 5G Connectivity With Its AirScale MIMO Adaptive Antenna
Cris Xander JulianoNokia is looking to power its 4.9G network technology with the announcement of the company's AirScale Massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output, or MIMO, adaptive antenna and the AirScale Micro Remote Radio Head which will then deliver 4.5G Pro capabilities according to Tech Republic.
These technologies were created to improve Nokia's LTE infrastructure as consumers wait for the arrival of 5G. This may also help businesses improve their offerings and solve some of their network issues in major cities.
Frank Weyerich, Nokia head of mobile networks products, stated, "Nokia introduced 4.5G Pro and 4.9G last year to allow operators to implement network capacity increases where and when it made sense for them." He also added that the company is delivering features that will maximize speed deployment times and cut costs of power most notable to highly populated areas.
The company's 4.9G connectivity will contribute capacity improvements and enhance overall speeds. It will also reduce latencies to less than 10msec. The 4.5G Pro on the other hand, is aimed towards network operators to assist them in adding density to their networks. This would be extremely beneficial as major cities continue to expand that cause strain on network infrastructures.
Ken Rehbehn, 451 research analyst, said that, "Nokia's move to infuse these capabilities into operator networks is important because advanced LTE functionality remains a vital factor for high performance mobile connectivity even after 5G takes root."
The AirScale MIMO Adaptive Antenna utilizes beamforming that provides signal directly to individual devices and will eventually be a part of the 5G standard. The technology reportedly leads to an eightfold upgrade in uplink and a fivefold upgrade in downlink on the network.
