South Korean smartphone maker Samsung released its flagship handset Galaxy S3 earlier in May this year. The Galaxy S3 has been highly-welcomed by smartphone users and tech gurus alike. The Japanese tech giant Sony, on the other hand, has also released its latest smartphone, Xperia V in an attempt to stake its claim in the highly competitive smartphone market.
Samsung's Galaxy S3 and Sony's Xperia V are both bundled with high-end features. However, which device will attract the consumers more?
Processor
A 1.4 GHz Exynos 4412 Quad Cortex-A9 CPU with 2GB of RAM powers the Galaxy S3. By comparison, the Xperia V has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960) with 1GB of RAM.
Display
The Galaxy S3 has a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED screen with 1280x720 pixel resolution at 306 ppi, which is larger than other available smartphones and gives a more realistic output with the AMOLED technology. On the hand, the Xperia V features a 4.3-inch TFT display with 1280x720 pixel resolution at 342 ppi, giving a sharper picture when compared to the Galaxy S3.
Weight and Dimensions
At 120 grams the Xperia V is slightly lighter than the Galaxy S3, which weighs 133 grams. Additionally, the Galaxy S3 is 8.6 mm thick when compared to the Xperia V's 10.7mm body thickness, which contributes to the weight. The Sony smartphone measures 129 x 65mm, compared to the Galaxy S3's136.6 x 70.6mm dimensions.
Storage and Battery
The Galaxy S3 outperforms the Xperia V in both the storage and battery categories. Samsung has launched the Galaxy S3 in three variants: 16/32/64GB, expandable up to 64GB using a microSD card. The Sony Xperia V has 8GB of on-board memory, expandable to 32GB using a microSD card.
The Galaxy S3 boasts a 2100mAh battery pipping the 1750mAh battery of rival Xperia V.
Camera
Sony has showed its potential in the camera industry with the Xperia V. The smartphone is equipped with a 13-megapixel, 1920x1080 HD camera. The Galaxy S3 packs an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 3264x2448 pixels, autofocus, and LED flash.
Connectivity
Both the Galaxy S3 and the Xperia V support advanced connectivity options like Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, 4G LTE, and NFC.
