‘Pokemon GO’ Gen 2 Mystery: Unown Spotted; What Happens When You Catch All 26? [VIDEO]
Rei Lantion"Pokemon GO" Gen 2 has just gone live, and it looks like it's rekindled the love lost between players and the game. With over 80 new Pokemon to catch, new berries to collect, and some snazzy new options for character customization, it will hopefully be a while before the Gen 2 excitement dies down. Niantic Labs also seems to have added a bit of mystery to the game, and they come in the form of those letter-shaped Pokemon, Unown.
Different Regions, Different Letters?
The first sighting was reported and documented by Reddit user MissingNebula. In response to a thread asking if Unown were part of the Gen 2 update or not, they posted screenshots of the Unown they caught in Milwaukee, WI, in the shape of the letter 'O.' The first screenshot features the Unown profile, and the second shows the caught Unown in their Pokedex.
According to Mic, another Unown was spotted and caught in Singapore. The Unown, this time shaped like the letter 'L,' was discovered by Edwin Wong Chee Seng. He uploaded screenshots of the captured Pokemon to a Facebook group.
Catch All 26 Unown
Mic posits that the different Unown may be point to an in-game feature similar to the mechanics in "Pokemon Gold" and "Pokemon Silver." Different Unowns represent different letters of the alphabet, and it may be possible to catch all 26. There's even a medal given out for catching three Unown, as MissingNebula shares here. In the original Gold and Silver series, collecting all shapes of Unown didn't really yield any sort of award, so it's highly likely a medal is the only reward "Pokemon GO" players will be getting.
Of course, the same report points out that "Pokemon GO" is known for region-specific Pokemon. The chances that the different Unown are scattered in different countries, with assigned "letters" per region, are also pretty high. It's also worth noting that the Unown achievement doesn't appear until you've caught your first Unown. Good luck and happy hunting!
