Broken iPhone 4s Sells On eBay For $150,000; Claims To Be Super Rare Steve Jobs Edition
Regin OlimberioA six-year old iPhone 4s claiming to be one of the super limited edition Steve Jobs design is selling on eBay for a whopping $150,000. The phone is still functional but quite used up, with its front display and back glass panel smashed up.
For those who haven't heard about the rare Steve Jobs edition, a company named Goldgenie has made 56 iPhone 4s phones with redesigned Apple logos to pay homage to the late founder. Instead of the usual "bitten apple design," an arts student named Jonathan Mak redesigned the bite to make it look like Steve Jobs' silhouette profile. Of the 56 iPhone 4s, only 55 made it to the actual market because 1 goes to Jonathan as recognition of his design.
The Steve Jobs limited edition design became an instant hit since it was made right after Jobs' death. However, the price is quite expensive compared to the usual iPhone 4s due to its rarity and materials used. Unfortunately, there are shameless counterfeiters that ripped off the design and made unlicensed phone cases, accessories and memorabilia, IndiaTime said.
As for the phone being sold on eBay, the public continues to doubt its authenticity. The smashed iPhone 4s sports 1955-2011 markings on the back plus a dominant "Steve Jobs" print and of course, the well-known revised logo. Unfortunately, experts claimed that it is a "very expensive FAKE."
The original Goldgenie Steve Jobs iPhone 4s had a gold back panel as opposed to the transparent glass panel on eBay. It even became an issue when Apple refused to honor the warranty due to gold plating, Business Insider reported.
At any rate, Goldgenie gave the limited edition Steve Jobs to Apple themselves in 2012 and some corporate figures received them. Goldgenie also sold iPhones encrusted in platinum and diamonds apart from gold.
