'American Housewife' Season 1 Episode 14 Recap: Valentine's Day is a 'Time for Love'
S. TurlaIn "Time for Love," the Otto family celebrated Valentine's Day in their own ways. "Time for Love" was the fourteenth episode of "American Housewife" Season 1.
The Valentine's Day episode of "American Housewife" featured Oliver excitedly preparing his gift to Alice and Greg with a big surprise for Katie. However, Katie just wants to make it through Feb. 14 without losing her temper, per Spoiler TV.
As someone who is very down-to-earth, Katie is not found of the showy "declarations of love" that are usually popular among some couples on Valentine's Day. It's especially funny because her husband Greg is willing to put out all the stops for Katie because he is a romantic person at heart.
Katie knows Greg means well, but she still thinks it's annoying when she has to clean up all the confetti afterward. Still, she doesn't want to hurt her husband's feelings so she just vents at Doris and Angela during their brunch. Meanwhile, Angela is excited to hook up with a single woman at one of the downtown bars, and Doris calls her a "love vulture."
Doris also tells Angela to just let Greg know that showy displays of love just isn't her thing, but Katie doesn't want to. When Katie gets home, Greg is actually busy with a book proposal, and he just gives her a simple cake. Strangely, Katie was expecting an elaborate surprise and she thinks the cake is a letdown.
Oliver is heartbroken because Alice avoids him, and Taylor wants to get invited to Casey's party. Taylor tells Katie that Greg already called Casey's mothers but this is a lie. The latter half of the show then reveals what has happened with the other characters.
According to TV Ratings Guide, the latter half of "American Housewife" begins with Taylor asking Greg if she can attend a party. Then Katie and the kids leave so Greg starts preparing an elaborate surprise for his wife. But when Greg calls Doris, she tells him that Katie hates surprises.
At school, Anna Kat sees Alice with another boy, and she confronts Alice. Back at home, Greg is using a leaf blower to clean up the petals but the Hall & Oates choir he hired has arrived. Katie also gets home, and Greg makes the choir leave just before Katie goes inside.
Greg then acts like he didn't have anything else planned. Katie then finds out what Doris told Greg. The couple argues, and Anna Kat tells Oliver not to give the keychain to Alice.
Anna Kat then reveals why Oliver shouldn't give his gift to Alice, and Taylor calls Katie who tells her that none of Taylor's friends' moms are at the party. Oliver then gives the keychain to Anna Kat.
The episode ends with Katie reading Greg's proposal, and the couple makes out after. Confetti then starts falling from the sky, mirroring Greg's initial elaborate surprise for his wife.
