iPhone 8 Release Date, Specs & Features: Touch ID Feature to Be Removed? What We Know So Far
Nens MitchellMany are excited with the upcoming release of the iPhone 8 but fans said that the revamped design of the device would sacrifice one major feature. The Touch fingerprint recognition will reportedly be removed from the next iPhone release.
3D laser scanner feature
Forbes reported that Apple will do away with the said feature and instead introduce a 3D laser scanner which can also recognize facial features. JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall explained that this new technology works better and is more secure than the Touch fingerprint scanner.
However, the facial recognition feature would be more complicated and would require more from the user especially when locking or unlocking the device. There are also some things to be considered when using facial recognition like the glasses or the contact lenses one wears.
AR and VR improvements
Despite these challenges, Hall still believes that facial recognition will be very useful in the coming years. "One obvious and potentially most compelling use would be AR/VR experiences in which the user's hands and other real world objects are being scanned and integrated into a field of view provided by the iPhone mounted into a Google Daydream-like headset," he added.
According to BGR, earlier reports have indicated that the fingerprint sensor of the device will already be embedded on the screen since the phone could do away with the home button. The technology will already be incorporated on the iPhone 8's display saving space on the screen of the phone.
Release period
It was indicated in a TechRadar report that the iPhone 8 could be unveiled and go on sale in retail stores this coming September 2017. It could adopt a curved design or retain the similar makeup of the iPhone 7.
The device could also maintain the single lens camera technology and improve the dual-lens feature in the iPhone 8 Plus. Fans also expect that it will introduce augmented reality and wireless charging.
