New 'Twin Peaks' Trailers Hiding a Secret Message?

Fans of "Twin Peaks" were in a frenzy after Showtime released a new teaser for the upcoming third season of the show. Some theories even say that the new videos featuring the town of Twin Peaks contain a secret message.

According to GeekExchange, the first video released on the "Twin Peaks" official Facebook page featured old footage from the show. The video opened with a shot of "evergreens blowing in the wind," then shows Laura Palmer's corpse under a plastic sheet.

The text "IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN" flashes on screen, then shows Laura Palmer's yearbook photo. The video ends with a shot of the Twin Peaks sign, which shows the town's population at 51, 201. However, eagle-eyed fans of the show noticed that the number is clearly different from the population shown on "Twin Peaks" merchandise and VHS Tapes, which read 51, 200 instead.

One interpretation, posited GeekExchange, was that Laura could be coming back. After all, the character did say "I'll see you again in 25 years" right before "Twin Peaks" ended. It's also possible that Bob the demon, which possessed Laura's father, is returning. Laura's "evil dopplegänger" could also be returning.

There's also the possibility that Laura's alleged return is only a red herring because in the second teaser, Agent Cooper is seen violently hitting his head against a mirror. His reflection shows BOB, who mimics Agent Cooper's actions.

Per SyFy Wire, at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, David Nevins, the president of Showtime, warned that fans shouldn't be expecting "traditional trailers" for the upcoming third season of "Twin Peaks." This is mostly due to the fact that co-creator David Lynch is "very intent" on keeping everything about the show's third season a secret to avoid spoilers.

The SyFy Wire article also revealed other fan theories based on the new teasers. A Reddit user even claimed that "you can see Laura close her eyes in the moment when she's supposedly dead," but this can only be seen "in extreme slow motion." On the other hand, Facebook fans say that "they can see the entity known as BOB in the wind-blown trees at the start of the promo."
