'Detroit: Become Human' Story: Product Of A Long & Painful Writing Process; Game Will Be 8-10 Hours; New Game Engine Developed
Keisuke AkioThe story of the highly anticipated game "Detroit: Become Human" is a product of a long and painful writing process. The game will run for eight to 10 hours while the team has developed a new game engine to maximize its graphics and features.
During the DICE Summit 2017 broadcast, Quantic Dream founder, David Cage disclosed one of the reasons why "Detroit: Become Human" is taking too long. He explained that their previous offerings were simple and particularly centered on game mechanics to gauge the skill of the player. He added that games with a good story are the ones with highest completion rate. The founder identified this as one key element that keeps the players engaged until the end.
Moreover, he said that the writing process for "Detroit: Become Human" is a long and painful one. The Quantic Dream founder revealed that it usually took him at best eighteen long months to finish the stories of his previous games. "Detroit: Become Human," however, cost him a crazy amount of time. Cage further explained that aside from having inspiration in writing for a particular story, one must also connect things so as not to compromise the entire gameplay.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview with IGN, David Cage disclosed that "Detroit Become Human" would be eight to ten hours long. It will have a lot more replay value just like other Quantic Dream games. He underlined that players should finish their first run of the game and live the consequences of their choices before they can start over and try other possibilities. Cage said that he wanted to push "Detroit Become Human" to its limits in terms of graphics and features. Quantic has already developed a new game engine to achieve this.
"Detroit Become Human" will be available on PS4 and most likely on the PS4 Pro. The game's specific release window has not yet been confirmed although there is a great possibility of a 2018 release.
