At IFA in August, Samsung promised that the much-awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for its flagship Galaxy S3 smartphone will come "very soon." A company representative later told CNET UK that the update would arrive as soon as October. The representative did not offer any other details, such as which markets will get the upgrade first.
News surfaced on Monday, Sept. 24, that the Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean update has finally started rolling out for the international version of the smartphone. According to SamMobile, Galaxy S3 owners in Poland will be the first to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade, which should be available via Samsung Kies and Over the Air (OTA). The code of the firmware is DA I9300XXDLIB CSC I9300OXFDLI1 MODEM I9300XXDLIB.
Owners of one of the devices listed should receive update notifications soon. If users opt for the OTA update to Jelly Bean, make sure to use a stable Wi-Fi connection and have more than 50 percent battery life. The upgrade can also be installed via Samsung's Kies sync software. Restarting the device may prompt a notification.
The official version of Android 4.1.1 Jelly bean will bring a slew of improvements and new features to the Galaxy S3, including Google Now for anticipating search queries, resizable widgets, smooth User Interface enhancements from Project Butter, and more.
It is uncertain at this point which markets will follow, but more news is expected to surface soon. Note that Poland is the first country to receive the Jelly Bean update, not Romania, as some reports have mistakenly stated.
According to a thread on XDA-Developers, the Jelly Bean update is available on Samsung Kies for several versions. The download takes up 774MB. XDA users who tried the update confirmed that the file is the official Jelly Bean upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy S3, and it is fully functional. The consumer software customizations (CSCs) available are ALB, BGL, CMF, COA, CYO, ERO, EUR, MSR, ORL, ORS, SEB, SEE, TMT, TOP, TRA, TSR, TWO, VIM, VVT, XEH, XEO, XEZ, and XSK. Croatia and Macedonia are among the other countries to get the update.
