Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date, Specifications & Design Rumors [VIDEO]; Windows 10 Cloud Is Around The Corner?
Vinay PatelThe internet is rife with all sorts of speculations and leaks regarding Microsoft's Surface Pro 5, and the device hasn't ceased floating on the rumor mill.
No prizes for guessing, the possibility of an impending launch of the Surface Pro 5 stirred conversations among tech enthusiasts who, without wasting any time began hazarding a slew of guesses regarding the 2-in-1 detachable's release date, specifications, and features. Here's a rundown of the Surface Pro 5's rumored launch, specs, and other details.
Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Specifications & Features
The Surface Pro 5 will not be getting rid of the proprietary Surface power connector and switch to Intel's latest Kaby Lake processors, award-winning tech journalist and blogger, Paul Thurrott revealed via a tweet. The post also divulged there's nothing dramatic about the highly-anticipated machine. In other words, the Pro 5 will be nothing more than a mere refresh.
Rumors about the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 have been pouring in from all corners since Oct. 2016; however, the Redmond-based tech titan did not update the Surface Pro and Surface Book product lines in 2016. Although Microsoft might opt to retain the power connector, the company is expected to oust the display port in favor of USB-C port.
At Surface Pro 4's launch, Microsoft warranted compatibility with Surface Pro 3's Type Covers, docking stations, and power adapters, but it might go for USB-C port following in the footsteps of other leading PC manufacturers.
Microsoft Surface Book 2 Release Date
Another report suggested that Surface Book 2 will not retain its dynamic fulcrum hinge and switch to a regular laptop-like design instead. There's hearsay that Microsoft will be dumping that form factor to hit the $1,000 starting price range. Last month, ZDNet's well-informed Mary Jo Foley indicated that Microsoft will not be taking the wraps off the Surface Book 2 at its Spring hardware launch.
Windows 10 Cloud At Microsoft Spring Hardware Launch
While it remains to be seen what else might be on the docket, Microsoft has extended its Surface brand to include new product lines like Surface Studio and Surface Hub. There's word floating around that the tech firm might come out with an entirely different product -- probably Windows 10 Cloud, BGR speculates.
For those unaware, this has nothing to do with the cloud. Mary Jo Foley describes Windows Cloud as an extension of Windows RT, which will run on low-priced hardware and will take on the likes of Google Chromebooks.
