On Wednesday, Oct. 3, LG Electronics announced that its high-end LG Optimus G smartphone will soon be available in the U.S. on carriers AT&T and Sprint. AT&T confirmed that it will be offering the Optimus G smartphone, and Sprint is yet to announce the same.
"Sprint and AT&T will be among the first wireless service providers in the world to offer the LG Optimus G," stated LG's press release.
The Optimus G is the world's first quad-core LTE smartphone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, making it one of the fastest and most powerful devices in the market. Earlier in September, LG had confirmed that the superphone would be released in the U.S. sometime in November; however, at the time details of the carriers were not available.
"LG Optimus G is the culmination of cutting-edge technologies provided by LG's class-leading global entities," said James Fishler, SVP, marketing and go-to-market operations, LG Electronics USA. "Drawing upon expertise from the LG Mobile Communications Company, LG Display, LG Chem and LG Innotek , we have carefully designed a new superphone that encourages users to step beyond everyday boundaries and explore a limitless world of power and creativity."
The Optimus G sports a 4.7-inch True HD IPS display with Zerogap Touch. The device has a pixel resolution of 1280 x 768. A quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.5GHz powers the device. The LTE-enabled smartphone packs in a large 2,100mAh battery.
The Optimus G has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage with an expandable memory option. The smartphone has an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera that can record 1080p HD video. It also has a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat. However, the Sprint version will sport a 13-megapixel front-facing camera as opposed to AT&T's 8 megapixels.
The Optimus G will come pre-loaded with Android 4. Ice Cream Sandwich and offers Bluetooth 4.0 and 2G/3G/4G LTE support. The "QSlide Function" on the smartphone allows two different screens to be viewed simultaneously on the display, which lets users multitask with ease.
The Optimus G also has a "DualScreen Dual Play" feature that "wirelessly displays different content on both a TV and the smartphone." Additionally, the "Screen Zooming" feature allows increased visibility by enabling a user to zoom in and out from e-mails, text messages, music player list, and photo gallery.
No information on the exact release date or pricing is currently available. However, the smartphone is expected to hit the shelves in time for the holiday season.
