Google Pixel's New Mode Safeguards Your Data During Device Repairs
Austin JayWhen you take your phone in to get fixed, there are times that your data could be breached.
Google has added something new to Pixel phones to keep techs from messing with your info. Turning it on means they can't wipe or reset your data while fixing it, making it more accessible.
It also gives extra privacy, shielding your stuff from people who shouldn't see it.
Google's new fix mode can be found on Pixels with the latest Android 14 update and at least 2GB of leftover space. To use it, go to Settings > System > Repair mode and follow the steps (you can turn it off the same way). Even so, saving your stuff before somebody works on your device is wise.
They also made an app for Pixels that you can access through the Phone app. Typing in ##7287## on the keypad lets you check it before and after repairs to see what's wrong, helping you figure out issues.
To help with repairs, Google works with iFixit and Shyft Global Services, providing actual Pixel parts and repair manuals. Head to the Google Help site to order parts or see the guides.
For now, in English and French, more manuals for different devices and languages should come soon.
The revamped repair guides for Google phones are now more accessible for professionals fixing devices or people doing it themselves. They can be found online in English and French for the Pixel Fold and Pixel 8 models, along with the 8 Pro.
More older and upcoming phones will get the guides soon. A "Repair Mode" was launched that Pixel owners can turn on to safeguard their info when getting technical help.
This locks down privacy, just like Samsung did in 2021. It allows security during fixes at repair shops. The updated fixing instructions for Google's cell phones make them not hard to follow for technicians working on them or individuals doing repairs themselves.

Google has now made it simpler for users to fix their phones, whether they do the job themselves or get a professional's help.
The tech giant works with uBreakiFix and others, supporting over 700 spots across the U.S. and covering both warranty and out-of-warranty cases.
If parts are on hand, most fixes take just hours. Four in five Pixel phone users live within 10-20 miles of an authorized repair hub.
With iFixit and Shyft Global Services as allies, Google boosts local shops and self-repair buffs by making their work smoother and helping them grow.
Now Google gives all kinds of fixers-not just pros but also DIY types-the goods they need: genuine parts plus tools of the trade. Their goal? Make fixing devices easier; cut down on extra gear required for repairs; aid small biz owners; please customers too.
Onward goes Google's pledge-to make fixing things more accessible and keep gadgets we rely on running longer daily. With eyes set firmly on sustainability (think long-lasting products), device toughness is critical so buyers can enjoy top-notch performance from their tech gear for years.
