Windows 8 is shaping up to be something that might garner mixed reviews from critics, but already it seems many users are not waiting to see what reviewers have to say, as Microsoft's next big baby is the number one bestseller on Amazon.
Last week, Microsoft kickedoff the pre-order program for Windows 8. However, it is quite surprising to see it taking the bestseller's spot on Amazon's Software category. This is great news for Microsoft so far - the company can classify this as an early victory over its detractors who have been searching for bad things to say about Windows 8.
Windows 8 is probably the most dramatic change compared to previous Windows operating systems. That's why there are so many people having problems with it. The biggest change of all comes in the new start screen, which is built for touch and not so much for keyboard and mouse navigation. Using the keyboard and mouse in the new start screen makes power users feel degrading, since there is not much one can do here. Still, the classic desktop is still around, so things are not as bad as it may seem.
Despite Windows 8 being the top seller in Amazon's software category, Microsoft is not resting on its laurels. The company is planning a massive $1.5B marketing push to get consumers interested in purchasing Windows 8 when the operating system is released on Oct. 26, which is just round the corner.
The first of the advertisements showcasing Windows 8 is already making their rounds on television, and more prominently, on the Internet. There will also be a public debut of Windows 8 on October 25, which will also bring the Microsoft Surface tablet into the sights of everyone to see.
If you didn't believe Microsoft was serious about Windows 8 and the Surface tablet, you better believe it now.
