Smartphone market leader Samsung is continuing to gather laurels for its flagship device for 2012, the Galaxy S3. The Galaxy S3 breezed past 10 million and 20 million unit sales in July and September this year, respectively, and now per reports, a tweet from Samsung Poland indicated that the Korean company has hit the 30 million sales milestone.
The Galaxy S3 was launched earlier in May this year and has been dominating the smartphone market. Earlier in September this year, when Samsung announced that its Galaxy S3 had surpassed 20 million sales, the company's IT and Mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun opined that the "Galaxy S3 is expected to sell more than 30 million units within this year." Shin was not wrong.
Now, according to a DigitalTrends report, a tweet from Samsung Poland stated, "We have already sold 30 million Samsung Galaxy S3 phones worldwide! Have you had a chance to test its features?" The report also indicated that the tweet was accompanied by a photo of "who we can assume to be Samsung staff, jumping in the air with unbridled joy holding number cards."
However, the tweet cannot be accessed anymore and it seems that it has been removed. Additionally, it is unclear if the 30 million figure is actual sales to customers or to retailers.
Additionally, a Mobilesyrup report indicates that Samsung Poland also took to its Facebook page to announce the 30 million sales landmark.
"Now, according to a post on Facebook, plus a picture of proof, the Samsung Galaxy S III has surpassed 30 million in sales," reported Mobilesyrup.
Interestingly, the post is not visible on Samsung Poland's Facebook page anymore either.
Despite intense competition from high-end smartphones, including the iPhone 5, the Galaxy S3 is holding on to its popularity. Recently, the smartphone also picked up two awards at a ceremony hosted by gadget magazine Stuff in the UK. The judges chose Samsung's Android-powered Galaxy S3 as the best smartphone and gadget of 201.2
"2012 has been a landmark year for technology, particularly in the tablet and smartphone spaces," noted Stuff's editor Will Findlater. He went on to say that "While Apple's gadgets have been exemplary, its competitors have made even greater strides - and the Galaxy S3, with its 4.8-inch HD screen and unique interface innovations, shows that Samsung has made the greatest strides of all."
The Galaxy S3 continues to fuel Samsung's dominance in the smartphone market, and with the Galaxy Note 2 also selling like hot cakes, it seems that the company is on track to retain its supremacy in the consumer market.
